YAY! My friend Michael Kerlin and his wife Ellen just had a beautiful baby boy named Luca Julius. Here is a picture of the cute little tyke. Judging from the lack to hospital decoration, I am guessing they followed the Dutch tradition of giving birth at home (and probably without any kind of medication). Now that’s what I call hard core.

Congratulations to the proud parents!

Yes it was a drug free home birth. In Australia (my home country) we would be now offically branded as hippies and possibile Communist that should not be trusted. It was not the intention to have the baby at home, but Luca decided to pick up the pace and caught the midwife by surprise. It was probably the scariest moment of my life when the midwife looked me in the eyes and said, “Ok, we can’t make it to the hospital. You need to help me. Get two large garbage bags.” I did not ask why, but was glad she did not ask me to boil some water and find some string. Garbage bags were a lot easier.

Brian, thanks for immortalising Luca on your blog and see you soon.
