Last weekend after Leiden we spent Sunday walking around Antwerp with Ian, Anja, and Anja’s friend Karin. Ann has a special affinity for Antwerp since she went to college and lived there for three years. Don’t ask her about any of that time though because she can’t recall it.
Antwerp, although a fairly large town, has a very nice city center well-suited for walking on bright sunny days. We punctuated our walking tour with stops in various cafes. It’s a typically European thing to do, sit on a terrace and sip a few beers watching the people walk by. As we were doing just that at a café right in front of the cathedral Ann spotted an old friend from her college days just walking by. Small place, Antwerp.
My favorite comment of the day was when Ian said something intelligent like, “Oh, hey, we can get Belgian beer here!”
We ate dinner at a fantastic Mexican place called Gringo’s Cantina, and after we were fully loaded up on enchiladas and Coronas, we stuffed ourselves with home made chocolate mousse.
Damn I love Belgium.
