Forgot to post after last Tuesday’s pub quiz.
We tied with 4 other teams for 4th place. The frustrating thing is, we had at least seven right answers written down that we argued ourselves out of.
Here are some examples of things we had right and then changed:
Marilyn Monroe’s age at the time of her death
The Soviet president who died in 74 (or something like that)
The longest river in Germany
The more common name for the Sandwich Islands
And others. THe thing is, we usually calculate our own score before the end, and it usually isn’t too far off, and normally the first place is enough points ahead of us that we don’t really feel too bad. We say to ourselves, “Well, we would have needed so many more points to get first, it’s just not realistic.”
But Tuesday night it was. If we had just kept our right answers we would have won. We had something like 64 and the winning team only had 69 and we had at least 7 or 8 where we convinced ourselves of the wrong answer.
So the good news is, we know that winning the top spot is within our grasp. Theoretically… it is possible.
We’ll see next week.
