One thing you really have to hand it to the Dutch for, they know how to take care of their employees. I notified my HR department that I was moving to the Hague and they immediately put in to buy a train pass for me so I could commute to work for free.
I am sure they are legally obligated to do this in some way, but just the whole idea, that your employer pays for your costs so you can come to work, is so contrary to all conventional American standards that I just couldn’t help feeling like I was getting something for free (well, of course I was) when they finally delivered the laminated, elegantly hologrammed, and picture-bearing train pass into my hands.
Take a look! I’m riding around the Dutch railways FREE OF CHARGE! Wooo hooo!!
