Have I mentioned that Rome is a kick-ass show?

I love period pieces, and this period is especially entertaining. No one is more inherently dramatic than the ancient Romans.

The ancient Greeks were cool, smart, and built some cool stuff, but whenever you think of them it’s always just guys in white togas and beards.

Ann likes the ancient Egyptians, but as far as drama goes how exciting is a bunch of sweaty, skinny guys wearing headdresses and heavy eye makeup?

Feudal japan is also very inherently dramatic, but those dudes are so serious. All I’m getting is a guy in a samurai suit sitting cross legged at a low table very carefully drinking tea.

Definitely, the ancient Romans win the “Cool Ancient Civilizations” Award.

Other fantastic HBO series include:

And whatever happened to the Mind of the Married Man? I thought that show was great.
