It was a strange night.

First, we ran into some Springer and ex-Kluwer peoples in the bar and convinced them to participate in the pub quiz. Then it turned out that Ann had hit it on the head about the music round being devoted to Christmas songs (and it was tough, and even tougher when I told the team to change “Bryan Adams” to “John Mellencamp” and turned out to be wrong – sorry Julia).

Then, after just discussing how we never get many questions on capitols, and how scoring errors are always in our favor, we got two tough questions on capitols (one was Bangladesh) and we also were awarded one less point than we calculated that we made. We originally were in 3rd place, and after checking with the quiz mistress, who does an admirable job of trying to take this seriously, we got an extra point to tie for second, but the people we tied with also were awarded three extra points so we ended up staying in third.

Still, not bad. If I hadn’t changed Bryan Adams we would have tied for second, but what can I say. I’m just an asshole like that.

(Ian knows from his experience when I refused to change a wrong answer just because I thought it was funny. He still has some residual psychic scars from that one…)

What can I say. Merry fucking Christmas.

😉

The next time the TOC meets it will be 2006, and we have a whole year to achieve our goal of getting first place at least once.
